Past Master jewels are given in recognition of the achievements made by a Master during his year of service to the Lodge, once he retires from the office.

In the US, the symbol is a compass with points extended 60 degrees on the 4th part of a circle with a sun in the center.  In England the symbol was a square on a quadrant.
